PRESS RELEASE 2004

interlink Garden Rail System

Interlink, a design office based in South East London, have developed a product specifically for use in garden railways, one of the fastest growing hobbies in Europe and the USA. The aim of the interlink Garden Rail System is to encourage new people into the hobby especially those who do not have good DIY skills or do not want to waste their valuable leisure time in major garden construction work.

Ron Jones, one of the partners in Interlink, has always been interested in trains and has been building N, OO scale train layouts since his early years. As a Design Consultant he has worked on many varied products in his career In the last ten years he has worked on numerous projects such as external specialist steel structures for the construction industry, luxury airline seats, undersea telecommunications and refurbishment of many of London’s Tube stations including London Bridge. His last project, being the Design Team Leader on the refurbishment of Leicester Square Tube station.

In 2002 he started to build his first garden railway and discovered that whilst there is a wealth of information on the internet and in garden railway magazines on how to lay track in the garden, it seemed a very hit and miss affair. The hobby was crying out for some ‘thing’ to assist the newcomer or non-practical person to build a simple garden railway with relatively low cost and the ability to uproot or change the route if necessary. It also had to take into account track expansion, a problem associated with large-scale garden rail track with a width of 32 to 45 mm.

After 18 months, working between other projects, the interlink Garden Rail System was created. The idea was patented in late 2003 (UK Patent Pending No 0318279.1) and after several prototypes & pre-production models, the first batch of full production Fleximounts, the integral component, have been manufactured in a small pre-production run and are now available.

Designed specifically for hobbyists starting a new garden layout or building extensions to existing garden layouts, it can easily be fitted to existing routes depending on the base ground material and complexity of the existing route.

UPDATE JAN 05

Since our launch in June, we have been very pleased with the response to the Interlink Garden Rail System, a product that is effectively a brand new concept in garden rail track laying. We are now completely sold out of our first batch of 1500 and having been reassured by its success, we ordered a further 3000, which we have now received and are currently assembling.

I would like to apologies to our most recent customers for the delay in sending out their orders, this was due to two reasons The first being an unexpected pre-winter demand for Fleximounts which quickly wiped out our stock, and the second being a change in our supplier of injection moulded parts (our original supplier unexpectedly retired). If you re-order in the future, you will notice that the housing colour is more a milky chocolate rather than a dark chocolate.
